About the HP Robotics team
The robotics team promotes STEM learning, leadership development, and team skills through a competitive robotics team that represents Highland Park High School and is open to all students. The mission is accomplished through multiple small teams with student captains that design, create, build, and program robots to compete in VEX robotics competitions locally, regionally, and nationally (as the teams are successful at each level and progress). Among the skills learned are engineering process, CAD design tools, electrical and mechanical engineering skills, physical building and construction, programming skills, leadership, and teamwork. The students invest 4+ hours per week outside the classroom on the team. Some are enrolled in the robotics formal class at the high school, but most are not. Funding for 90% of the team’s resources, including robot kits, laptops, and competition registrations, is provided by the HPHS Robotics Boosters, a 501(c)3 organization whose sole purpose is financial support of the Robotics Team. Highland Park High School provides a teacher (sponsor) and meeting space.
